Wine Tasting Class

20140923_1210

Where do you start tasting wine in a country with nearly 100 native grape varietals, 22 wine regions, and plenty of incomprehensible names? Taste Hungary’s wine tasting classes are ideal for wine-lovers looking for a crash course on the increasingly fabulous wines of Hungary.

Our guided tastings feature a carefully curated selection of eight Hungarian wines. Together they will distill the wide range of Hungarian wine into a comprehensible story, which we hope will be just the beginning of your Hungarian wine experience. Over two hours you will get a good overview of Hungarian wine, including the history, the major regions, the important varietals, unique characteristics and styles, and promising trends. We buy our wine directly from the producers, who we have gotten to know well over the years, and every wine you will taste during the course of the tasting will be there for a reason. By the session’s end you will have a good understanding of Hungary’s place in the world of wine, and plenty of good wine in your belly.

This fun, interactive, and informative tasting is held at our tasting cellar and kitchen—located in the heart of Budapest.

Our most popular tasting is our “Essentials of Hungarian Wine,” which is perfect for those who are new to Hungarian wine. Taste and learn about Tokaj, Hungary’s most complex region, in our dedicated “Tokaj Terroir Tasting.”

We are happy to create custom tastings revolving around different themes. Contact us if you have something in mind.

Essentials of Hungarian Wine
This tasting is designed for anyone with an interest in wine, who would like to know more about the relatively unknown wines of Hungary. It will give you a thorough introduction to Hungary’s wine history, regions, important grape varieties, and trends. We will begin with a sparkling wine (method traditionelle), taste some reds and whites, and end with a sweet botrytised Tokaj aszú wine. There will be a total of eight wines, which we have selected carefully from the producers who we know well and visit regularly.

Tokaj Terroir Tasting
Tokaj was the world’s first delimited wine region, and some of the world’s finest dessert wines are produced in this little corner of Hungary. Though the region is famous for its well-balanced dessert wines which are made in many levels of sweetness, stunning dry wines (especially furmint) are also produced here. This tasting will include eight wines, a mixture of dry ones and sweet ones. We are pretty sure that by the end of the tasting, you will want to visit this very special region for yourself.
