Budapest Food & Wine Lover’s Break (3-Day Package)

Budapest food and wine lover's break

We definitely recommend staying in Budapest as long as possible! However, if you only have a few days to spend here, our recommendation is to come hungry, and eat and drink as much as possible! Budapest is a great city for food and wine, and for leisurely enjoying eating and drinking local specialties in gorgeous surroundings. But don’t just take our words for it: Budapest was recently named one of the World’s Best Food Cities by Condé Nast Traveler. We make it our priority to introduce our guests to the best food, wine, people, and places in Budapest and Hungary. Our three-day package (which can also be customized), will ensure that you pack in the most during a short break in Budapest.

DAY 1

10am-2pm: Culinary Walk Our signature walking (and tasting) tour is the perfect way to get introduced to the breadth of Hungarian cuisine and wine, the stunning Central market Hall, and a few fun neighborhoods.

5pm-9pm: Dinner Walk On the Dinner Walk you will eat a varied Hungarian dinner at four different places (one course at each venue). Dinner will include a taste of street food, a modern interpretation of a Hungarian dish, something traditional, and something sweet.

DAY 2

11am-3pm: Jewish Cuisine & Culture Walk Explore the 7th district—one of Budapest’s hippest neighborhoods, which was once one of Europe’s largest Jewish communities—and become acquainted with Hungarian-Jewish cuisine in many forms. Jewish influences have long played an important role in the Hungarian kitchen, and Hungarian-Jewish cuisine has been undergoing an exciting revival in recent years.

6pm-8pm: Essentials of Hungarian Wine Tasting This crash course on the increasingly fabulous wines of Hungary will give you a thorough introduction to Hungary’s wine history, regions, important grape varieties, and trends. In the company of our sommelier you will taste eight wines (including a sweet Tokaj aszú wine), and learn the story behind Hungary’s wine. The wine will be accompanied by a local cheese and charcuterie board.

* Dinner at a recommended restaurant (not included in the package price)

DAY 3

OPTION 1

Full-Day: Wine Tasting Tour in the Hungarian Wine Country Head outside of Budapest and spend the day experiencing the Hungarian wine country in Eger, Villány, or Tokaj. The day will include tours and tastings at three wineries, a memorable multi-course lunch, walks in the vineyards, and a bit of sightseeing.

You’ll be back in Budapest in time for dinner at a recommended restaurant (not included in the package price)

OR

Spend the morning on your own doing a detox at one of Budapest’s thermal bath houses, or sightseeing (we can provide you with recommendations; not included in the package price)

* Lunch at a recommended restaurant (not included in the package price)

Timing is flexible: Private Danube Cruise Cruise the Danube the right way … on a small and elegant boat with a glass of wine in hand! This 1.5-hour boat ride pairs one of Europe’s most memorable skylines with four fine Hungarian wines. (This option is only available between April and October.)

* Dinner at a recommended restaurant (not included in the package price)

OPTION 2:

Spend the morning on your own doing a detox at one of Budapest’s thermal bath houses, or sightseeing (we can provide you with recommendations; not included in the package price)

* Lunch at a recommended restaurant (not included in the package price)

3:30pm-6:30pm: Coffeehouse Walk Cafés were hubs of Hungarian literary and artistic life in 20th century Budapest. They are deeply intertwined with Hungary’s history, and they were vital to the city’s artistic and political circles. This tour will bring the golden coffeehouse era to life for you through stories that will give you an understanding of the vital role that coffeehouses played.

OR

6pm-9pm: Craft Beer Walk The Hungarian craft beer revolution is still in its infancy, but is quickly building momentum. Our beer-specialized guide will introduce you to the homegrown brews worth seeking out, and a few special pubs.

* Dinner at a recommended restaurant (not included in the package price)
