After we had been organizing food and wine tours for a few years—crisscrossing the country taking our guests to wineries and keeping our eyes on all of the food and wine developments in Budapest—we realized that we still hadn’t found the kind of wine place in Budapest where we really wanted to take our guests. So, we bought an old brick cellar below a 19th-century palace in the Palace District, renovated it, stocked it with wine (we now have 200+ labels), and opened our own wine tasting room and shop!
The Tasting Table is a hybrid wine shop / tasting room / event space / education center / online shop. We focus on Central European grape varietals and specialties, and on educating our guests about Hungarian and Central European wine and food culture. We mainly buy our wine straight from the winemakers, from good people who make good wine, who we know and trust. Our goal is to introduce these special wines, and our wine is always paired with lots of insight into Hungarian winemaking. We wanted to create a place in the city where guests could come sit at our communal tables and have special wine experiences, taste special wines that are not easily available, and hear the stories behind them. Our sommeliers are always happy to chat.
Some of our tours now begin and end with tastings at The Tasting Table. It is open daily for guests to drop by and order wine flights and artisan cheese and charcuterie from the menu. We also offer wine tasting classes, and the place is available for private functions (we work with a fantastic chef!). We have the largest selection of old and rare Tokaji aszú in Budapest. Our Thursdays @The Tasting Table series happens every other Thursday, when we invite a special guest for a themed dinner / wine tasting. Come visit and have a glass of wine with us!
